Parent Child Interactive Therapy
PCIT
PCIT (Parent Child Interactive Therapy) is a therapy that helps parents increase their bond and attachment with their child by promoting positive statements and weeding out negative behaviors. In the first half of PCIT called CDI we work on increasing the positive interaction so that it helps show how your child reacts and appreciates that positive attention. In the second half of the PCIT called PDI we work on the parent giving commands and then when the command is not followed through, then a consequence is given, followed through and then the command is followed through after the consequence is complete.

This allows the parent to re establish their power as a parent and allows them to practice the consequence in a controlled environment. The time frame is about 16 to 24 weeks each half depending on how fast the parents can move through the skills. Once completed, the family graduates and can move to other services.

Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much.
